Like the removal of the HVAC temperature LCD screen looks like there's another mid-production change coming to reduce chip usage. One of the included key fobs for XL and XLT Mavericks won't have keyless entry function. No mention if there will be any sort of discount for this feature cut.

Source: Ford Authority
The 2022 Ford Maverick is currently nearing the end of its production run after a slightly extended session designed to churn out more examples, so The Blue Oval can fulfil as many orders as possible. Unfortunately, the ongoing chip shortage and supply chain crisis prevented the automaker from producing as many as it could, so it is scrambling to make up for lost time. Despite the imminent switchover to the 2023 model, the company decided to introduce a new change to the lineup that impacts one of the two keys included with certain models, likely as a way to deliver as many pickups as possible.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the 2022 Ford Maverick XL and XLT will come with a new depopulated key that eliminates the keyless entry functionality. The change only impacts one key fob, so owners will still get one fob with keyless entry and perimeter alarm functions. However, the other key will now lack the ability to lock and unlock doors, although it will retain the ability to active the alarm via the panic button. The change is currently packaged as a required option, meaning all XL and XLT models produced after a certain date will feature the new fob. 2022 Ford Maverick Lariat pickups are not impacted by this latest change.

Crazy, been waiting since January for my XLT. Now I read in the Ford Authority that to speed things up Ford has decided on the XLT to eliminate one keyless entry fob from the pair that you normally would get, leaving only one.

I just had to replace a fob for my wife’s car and that ran around $250, looks like something else to negotiate when it comes time to close the deal at the dealership.

This whole maverick thing is starting to get stale. But I’m still waiting, L O L

De-contenting happens all the time with vehicles often coupled with price increases. Manufacturers try to figure out what features they can eliminate to save some money/increase profit.

Can't be correct. I believe all new vehicles are required to have two keys/fobs. They did remove some remote features such as remote start, and then made it an "add-on" cost, which may be a restraint ;)

This has me thinking of ditching the XLT Lux package +$170 remote start on my 2023 order, doing aftermarket lumbar adjust and seat heating, then toss in a quality two-way remote start and security system. I'd still come out ahead over the cost of the Lux package, can have multiple fobs with all the requisite buttons, and added functionality like remote window roll-down, etc.

What's the best way to change items on your order and does it screw with your priorities and scheduling?

I think what they are referring two is systems with keyless entry will be reduced to one fob. You will still get two fobs but only one of them will allow for keyless entry.

Citation needed. This makes no logical sense. A fob that has a panic button, but they just didn't bother putting the lock/unlock buttons on it? Right...

"Ok, here's $10" ~ Ford
Seems like it'd be more than that. I get your point, but the difference in the sales price between a regular key and remote one has to be more than $10. Seems fair and logical.

A number of manufacturers the past year+ have been shipping vehicles with only one key for at sale and that they will provide a second "Sometime".

Although in this case you still get two keys/fobs, one just doesn't have lock/unlock buttons.

The panic button probably doesn't use cipher authentication. Without a lock/unlock button you can cut that cryptographic hardware.

Repeated in another thread, but Ford is speaking to the remote entry. Where you walk up and open a locked door with the key in your pocket. One key will be remote the other will be bog standard clicker. You will still get two fobs with clickers. One just won't allow you to leave it in your pocket to unlock the door.

What does keyless entry mean? All keyfobs that have a key have a button to unlock the doors. Is that keyless entry?

Now my current vehicle a ford ecosport has touch type door handles. I don't need to hit a button on the fob to unlock the doors BUT I can do that . I just touch the door handle and it unlocks with fob in my pocket. I have no key for starting as its push button start. BUT there is a key inside the fob to manually unlock the drivers door. So is that Keyless entry?
