2025 Rotary shifter stops on Neutral a lot

Just wondering if anyone else with a 2025 hybrid is experiencing the same as me with the rotary shifter.

On my previous 2022 Hybrid XLT & 2023 Hybrid Lariat Maverick I was able to spin the shifter with my thumb annd middle finger and I’m in Drive and away I go.

On my 2025 Hybrid Lariat I’ve found that the same spin gets me on Neutral more than enough times to annoy as I push the accelerator to find I’m not in Drive.

Anyone else finding this?

My 2025 Maverick Hybrid is my first spin shifter. I had to first learn that you have to push on the brake before pushing the start button or you would only turn on accessory mode. Next I had to learn that you also had to push the brake to spin the shifter. If I pushed on the brake & the shifter would not spin, I was in accessory mode.

Too many bells & buttons.

First two weeks I sometimes turned on the wipers instead of spinning the shifter.

IDK if it's the same in the 2025 (mines a 2023) but you should hear a soft auditory beep when all the way in drive or park using the shifter. Hope it helps.

1995 Taurus SW: (My first automatic transmission. Replaced by the Maverick after 30 years of service)

Gear shift had to be in Park or Neutral to start. Gear shift was on the column where the wiper control is on my 2025 Maverick.​

1990 Ranger: (Manual 5-speed. Bought new in Jan 1990, Still have as a backup)

Clutch pedal has to be pushed to the floor to start with your left foot. If you are on a hill, you would need to push on the brake with your right foot to keep from rolling down the hill.​

2018 Forest River FR3 28DS (Class A motorhome on Ford F53 chassis, purchased new in 2017)

Same automatic transmission column gear shift as 1995 Taurus above.​

Super random but anyway someone with a 2025 can pull the part number off the shifter assembly? Can’t find it anywhere and I am looking for one to test out on my F150. Needs to be a 2025 though not the 24 or older!

Every vehicle I've had since 1989 (except manual trans) required the brake to be pressed in order to start the vehicle.

I've never owned a vehicle that requires a foot on the brake to start, including my Maverick. However, I've never owned a vehicle with push-button start. All vehicles I've driven with push-button start require a foot on the brake.

To the OP...I can't answer your question because I don't own a '25 hybrid, but I don't know why it would be desirable to "flick" the gear selector like that. I suspect that the detents on your '25 are slightly stiffer than the ones you've had before, and your "flick" is only moving it two notches instead of three. You could feel how many notches it had traveled if you had your hand on it.
