Hi, I’m thinking of putting the aftermarket Ford fender flares on my XLT, will those work also as mud flaps or will I need those too?

The flares should will cut down on amount of debris that collects behind the tires but most folks that are buying mud guards are doing it to protect against some exposed areas in the wheel wells; especially the rear wheel well on the driver's side.

WOW, that is really graphic and clearly shows something is needed.

They really do help keep the sides of the vehicle cleaner during inclement weather or dirt/gravel on unpaved roads. I've added them to every vehicle in the past 30+ years, which for me hasn't been that many, having seen the lower rocker panels have the paint basically blasted off one winter.

On my second set now, as the first didn't allow mounting of my fender flares without some modification, so bought a set of the more expensive Mabett flares to go with their flares.
