I wanted to share my solution for transporting 2 10’ kayaks in my Maverick. I’ve seen some of the mounts and racks available to buy, but this cost about $50 in parts and the rest was scrap wood from my garage. Works excellent and preserves visibility through the rear window. It’s very sturdy and when tied down, the kayaks don’t move at all.

Congratulations on a job well done. I can see a third boat between the other two for a shuttle driver. Three more boats on an overhead bed rack if you want to get crazy.

I just clip the bow to a strap stretched between the two bed bottle openers at the front of the bed for shuttling. It works for boats under 9 feet. The j racks are much more secure.

Looks like the only thing holding it in place is the 2x in the tailgate gap and the tension straps at the front. No concern for hitting a bump and the whole rig popping up out of that tailgate gap?

Can’t happen when the kayaks are strapped in. I add a strap around both to each of the rail cleats. That way the whole sled and kayaks are strapped to the truck.

Gotcha, couldn't see there the kayaks were strapped on the back side.

I'm waiting on a hitch receiver for a more traditional rack, but this is a pretty sweet solution. I'm going to do the same thing for now. Cheers!!

Do you think there would be too much overhand doing something similar with my 14' kayaks?
