This thread is intended to provide users with some photographs of what they can expect above the headliner.

I had to piece together pictures from eBay auctions, bits of information spread throughout the forum here, some incomplete Ford manuals, YT videos, and so on, and it was tedious to assemble a mental picture of what to expect.

So here are some posts with photos that will hopefully make your job easier.

This is perfect. I plan on replacing my antenna with one from a 2022 Mustang.

Model JD9Z-19A390-AAPTM connectors look like they should work. Just need to get it painted. Fingers crossed.

Edit
Damn looks like mine is short a connector

What are you replacing yours with?

Maybe I can swap the innards from the Mustang one with the Maverick one and retain the shark fin.

Any chance you can open up the Maverick antenna and take some pictures?

It is interesting to me that Ford actually put a little bit of sound baffling up there to reduce NVH.

Of course, you can always add more to your taste. This is the Canopus product that works well in high heat environments like the desert Southwest.

These are the 10 mm bolts that tension the drip rails down into their grooves in the roof.

These are three .pdf documents that provide some guidance on the process to remove the headliner. Two are from the Bronco, but they help build a mental picture of what the process is like.

Awesome. Thank you. How come your removing your antenna? Replacing it with something better?

Here is a link to the most useful thread on the subject on this forum.

It contains pictures from several other forum users that helped me to envision where things were and prevented me from breaking stuff.

Click me to reveal the mystery.

I plan to accomplish several things with this Dance of Removals.

First, get the antenna off so I can apply a vinyl wrap to the roof. As a portion of that process, I also want to remove the drip rails so the vinyl can be below them. The whole drip rail and its valley area seems to be a magnet for leaves and dust, so perhaps I can mitigate that once I see what it looks like under there.

Second, apply sound baffling under the ceiling and above the headliner. That was easy to accomplish, and in other trucks I have gotten about four decibels of quieter ride from roof baffling. It isn't a lot, but when combined with the back panel, the doors, the wheel wells and the firewall, applying Dynamat or Canopus turns even an inexpensive vehicle into something that feels a lot more solid and sounds less windy.

Third, run a conduit fore-and-aft to more easily snake wires for things like dash cams or whatever Future Me decides needs powered in the rear of the cab.

Finally, the edging of the headliner isn't great quality - it is just bias cut without any attempt to finish it. I think I will try to put an edge on it, such as the plastic edging you can buy as a door guard.

In addition to the forum thread linked above, here is a useful video that shows how to remove the dome light.

You can see, but you cannot usefully work on, the antenna base from the hole in the headliner once you remove the dome light.

But you do need to remove the dome light in order to drop the headliner.

Note on the Ceiling Microphone:

You do not need to remove the mic cover from the headliner.

I removed the sun visors, the hand grips and the dome light, so I thought I would need to remove the ceiling mic from below as well. That is not the case.

Leave the mic cover in place, and after dropping the headliner, you can unclip the wiring from the rear of the mic if you need to do so. Or leave it connected and work around it.

interesting in how that works out. I have the headliner poking out from the seals near both a frame posts, and am hesitant to ask for the TSB repair because they will inevitably scratch something up. TSB calls for total headliner replacement.

If adding a little of that plastic edging keeps it tucked, I can avoid that risk.
