Might just be "in transit" and not in stock.

Lots of these dealers are posting in transit or custom order trucks as “dealer stock” to get traction on the car search sites. If you search on CarGurus half the results aren’t actual trucks. When you look at the window stickers of them they are green custom order stickers and when you call the dealership they say “oh ya it’s already sold come order one with us”.

Nothing new and people get their knickers in a twist over this too. It is an old marketing ploy to get customers into the door. I'm sure it's a customers Maverick

Likey dealers will get more stock hybrids than ordered.. That is the way eco/bronco has worked so far.. Why would hybrids be any different.. If you need a hybrid best chances are to buy a stock or "order backed out" model.. You will get yours before orders.

It could be a come-on, or an attempt at bait and switch.

Alternatively, it could be a truck with a confirmed VIN for a customer order from someone who backed out of the decision to purchase or even (worst case) died.

When I went to test drive an XL the dealer had a cactus gray Lariat racked up on a display thing out front, I asked about it and they said it wasn't for sale, it was a customer order waiting to be picked up but they were using it for free advertising.

And so it begins.. the writing has been on the wall, just look at Ford’s launch of the full-size Bronco.

Had to of seen this coming.. dealers getting stock hybrid units before retail orders fulfilled. It’s the same broken record with Ford anymore.

Someone has probably ordered it and not picking it up

It is probably one of their dealer stock on order. I doubt they have it in stock and definitely not for sale at this time. As far as I know none of the hybrids have been shipped. If so, let us know.

Yup... The same thing happened with my M5, it was the first LCI (BMW speak for mid-life cycle M5 in PHX) so the dealer had it smacked in the center of the showroom to show it off.
