Welp, right after putting 6,000 miles in, this happened.

I can't be angry with the guy that hit us: he was having a "medical issue". What I am a little sore about is the fact that the hit took out my entire rear-end safety system and camera. Plus, when they did the damage estimate, I was told that "this writes up like a car, so we can't actually order you a new bed" (bed floor is actually torn).

Estimate is around $8,000 for repair.

Note the 'gap' on either side of the tailgate. The cubby got thrown open and my bungees went 'a-flyin'.

So, you’re saying my “stash” isn’t secure.

I feel for you! $8,000 actually sounds like a lower than expected estimate. Most of the work will be lining up the bed and tailgate. I was thinking a little over 10k (paint, labor, parts).

Not totaled with the bed torn in two places? . . . It will be interesting to see the result of the repairs.

Not that stoked about:
1. Waiting another year
2. paying the new model upcharge
Agreed. You have time invested in this truck. Get it fixed. It hurts, I know, but I think getting it fixed will be ok. Yes, there will be an accident on the truck, but it's your truck, and your decision.

I would be getting another estimate from someone that can order you a new bed, unless that totals it out.

If you do get it repaired, pursue a diminished value claim since you're resale value will drop.

That sucks! Not as bad as it could be, but nonetheless, not a good thing as it ends up on your vehicles history.
I always worry about someone rear-ending me. Yeah, people who climb up my butt at lights can probably hear me cursing them out -- but I've been rear-ended before, and I've had spinal surgery once already too. Possibly could use a second, and also have multiple lower spine issues, so I'm more than aware of what goes on around me as I don't want to live the rest of my life in a wheelchair, and too many people on the road shouldn't be as they're either grossly incompetent or are just arses.

I hope the best works out in your favor!
